CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State senior guard Jamir Watkins and Miami graduate guard Nijel Pack shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Duke guard/forward Kon Knueppel was named ACC Rookie of the Week in the first set of ACC weekly honors for the 2024-25 season, as announced Monday.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.
A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Watkins averaged 23.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals in the Seminoles’ first two games of the season. He scored 30 points in Florida State’s 73-65 neutral-site victory over Rice, reaching the 30-point barrier for the second time in his career. He was 7-for-14 from the floor, 2-for-4 from 3-point range and 14-for-22 from the free-throw line. In the season opener, Watkins scored 17 points on 8-for-17 shooting in a 74-62 home triumph over Northern Kentucky.
Pack averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds over two games, while shooting 62.5 percent from the field. He also posted an 11.0 assist/turnover ratio for the week. Hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, Pack reached the 20-point mark for the 85th time in his career with 21 points in Miami’s 113-72 win against Fairleigh Dickinson, going 9-of-11 from the field. He followed it up with a 17-point effort in the 88-64 victory over Binghamton. Pack was 5-for-13 (38.5%) from behind the arc in the two wins.
Knueppel averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and 50 percent behind the arc, as Duke earned decisive wins over Maine and Army. In his collegiate debut against Maine, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line, while adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Against Army, he once again topped the Blue Devils in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-6 from long distance.
