CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior guard Olivia Miles has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Louisville guard Tajianna Roberts earned Freshman of the Week honors for games played during the opening week of the regular season.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Miles returned to the hardwood for the first time since the regular-season finale of the 2022-23 season and dropped a triple-double, the fourth of her collegiate career. The Phillipsburg, New Jersey, native became the first player in the NBA, WNBA or college basketball (men’s or women’s) in the last 25 years to miss an entire season with an injury and post a 20-point triple-double in their first game back. The guard tallied 20 points, 10 rebounds and a team-high 10 assists in Notre Dame’s 105-61 victory over Mercyhurst in the season opener on Monday, November 4, as the performance was just the fourth time in program history a Notre Dame player posted a 20-point triple-double. In Sunday’s win over Purdue, Miles notched 17 points with five rebounds and a pair of assists in a 102-58 rout of the Boilermakers.
Roberts opened her collegiate career with a game-high 21 points against No. 5 UCLA in the annual Oui Play in Paris, France, on Monday. The San Diego, California, native buried four 3-pointers and finished 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from the floor, as her 21 points were the most points scored by a freshman in the ACC last week. On Friday, Roberts dropped in 11 points, including three triples, in Louisville’s 75-51 win over Southern Indiana.
Six teams are ranked in the latest Associated Press (AP) Poll, as Notre Dame leads the way remaining at No. 6 following its perfect 2-0 start. NC State is No. 13, North Carolina is No. 14, Duke is No. 16, Louisville is No. 18 and Stanford makes its debut at No. 24. Florida State and Miami are currently receiving votes.
