CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College sophomore midfielder Marci Killeen earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while BC senior goalkeeper Brennan Klein and California senior defender Kevin Carmichael shared ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played October 28-November 1, it was announced Tuesday. This marks the final ACC Player of the Week honors for the 2024 season.
Killeen scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute for Boston College's 1-0 road victory over No. 8 North Carolina in the regular-season finale. The native of Brea, California, launched a rocket from well outside the top of the box and perfectly placed it in the upper right corner of the goal for his first goal of the season as the Eagles claimed their first conference win of the season.
Klein made six saves to earn the shutout in a 1-0 victory for the Eagles over No. 8 North Carolina. A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Klein faced a Tar Heels’ onslaught in the second half as UNC took a dozen shots, including placing five on goal.
Carmichael scored his first goal of the season and marshalled a defense that shut out the nation’s 22nd-ranked team in Cal’s 1-0 road upset of Stanford in the regular-season finale – dubbed the Big Clasico. The native of Thousand Oaks, California, led a defense that limited Stanford to just three shots on goal. He also scored the match’s lone goal, firing a shot from the top of the box to beat goalkeeper Rowan Schnebly.
With the regular season now in the books, the 2024 ACC Men’s Soccer Championship begins on Wednesday, November 6, with seven first-round matches at campus sites. The quarterfinals will be played Sunday, November 10, on campus sites, while the semifinals and championship match will be played on Thursday, November 14, and Sunday, November 17, respectively, at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
