Miami’s Ward Wins 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami senior quarterback Cam Ward was voted the 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award winner, as announced on ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday.
 
Ward is the third Hurricane to receive the country’s oldest and most prestigious quarterback trophy, joining Vinny Testaverde (1986) and Gino Torretta (1992).
 
The ACC Player and Offensive Player of the Year and All-ACC First-Team selection, Ward leads the nation in passing touchdowns (36) and Total QBR (88.0) and ranks second in all of FBS in passing yards (4,123), passing yards per game (343.6), total offense per game (359.9), points responsible for (254), and points responsible for per game (21.2). He also ranks fourth in the nation in passing efficiency (171.1) and yards per pass attempt (9.48), all of which rank in the top two in the ACC.
 
This season, Ward set new single-season Miami records for both passing touchdowns and passing yards, while also becoming the first Miami player to tally seven straight 300-yard performances.
 
Ward, who has passed for over 300 yards in 10 games this season, has thrown for 17,999 yards over his collegiate career which ranks in the top five in NCAA history. He also has recorded 155 career touchdown passes, which is tied for the NCAA Division I career record with Case Keenum (Houston).
 
Ward is the first player from Miami to be named the ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year.

Ward was also selected as a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Memorial Trophy, the Heisman Trophy Trust announced on Monday. He was also a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year, Manning and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm awards, in addition to being a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award.

Ward and the Hurricanes have had the top offense in the country all season long. Miami leads all FBS programs in scoring offense (44.2), total offense (538.3), yards per play (7.6), first downs (327) and third-down conversion rate (56.5).
 
The West Columbia, Texas, native has guided the Hurricanes to their first 10-win campaign in seven years.
 
During the regular season, Ward tied for the nation’s lead in Davey O’Brien Great 8 selections, collecting five weekly honors.
