Two Teams in the CFP
  • Two ACC teams made the 12-team College Football Playoff (CFP) in the first year, as Clemson earned the automatic bid by winning the ACC Football Championship. SMU was ranked in the top 12, coming in at No. 10.
  • No. 10 ranked SMU (11-2, 8-0 ACC) earned its first trip to the CFP as the No. 11 seeded team, one of just two teams in all of FBS to go undefeated in regular-season conference play. In their first season in the ACC, Coach of the Year Rhett Lashlee led the Mustangs to 11 wins, one of just 10 teams in all of FBS to record 11 wins or more. The 11-win season is the fourth in program history and marks the second consecutive season in which the Mustangs have recorded 11 wins.
  • The 11th-seeded Mustangs will travel to State College, Pennsylvania, as it will meet No. 6 seed Penn State on Saturday, December 21, in the first round of the CFP. SMU’s College Football Playoff debut will kick off at noon ET and be televised on TNT.
  • No. 16 Clemson will be making its seventh trip to the CFP, becoming only the second team to earn seven CFP berths since the start of the playoff postseason format in 2014. The Tigers won the National Championship in 2016 and 2018 – the second most of any school in the CFP era. Clemson will be the No. 12 seed and play at No. 5 Texas in the first round on Saturday, December 21, at 4 p.m. ET on TNT.

ACC in the College Football Playoff Rankings
  • Four ACC teams were ranked in the final CFP rankings (December 8) – SMU (No. 10), Miami (No. 13), Clemson (No. 16) and Syracuse (No. 21).
  • The ACC also had four teams ranked in the final CFP rankings in 2014, 2017, 2021, and last year in 2023. The ACC had a league record of five teams ranked in the CFP Top 25 final rankings in both 2016 and 2020.
  • In the final CFP top 25 rankings over the last four years, there were only seven programs in each one – Clemson and NC State are included from the ACC. No conference has more than two teams that can state that claim.

Lucky 13 with Bowl-Eligibility
  • The ACC has 13 bowl-eligible teams – Miami, Pitt, Duke, Clemson, SMU, Syracuse, Louisville, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Boston College, California, NC State and Virginia Tech – tied for the most of all conferences.
  • With 13 bowl-eligible teams in 2024, the ACC has had at least six bowl bids in 24 consecutive seasons. Not including the pandemic-affected 2020 season, the ACC has sent at least nine teams to a bowl each year since 2016.

Four Teams Ranked in both the AP and Coaches Top 25 Polls
  • The ACC had four teams ranked in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 Poll (December 8) - SMU (No. 12), Clemson (No. 13), Miami (No. 15) and Syracuse (No. 22).
  • The same four ACC teams were ranked in the most recent top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll (December 8) - SMU (No. 12), Clemson (No. 13). Miami (No. 16) and Syracuse (No. 25).
  • Duke and Louisville received votes in both polls, while Georgia Tech received votes in the coaches poll.

Among the Top of All FBS Conferences
  • Heading into bowl season, the ACC is ranked first or second among all FBS conferences when it comes to winning. The ACC is first among all conferences in true road wins (44), winning percentage in road games (.500), one-score (touchdown) wins (48), and close game wins (28).
  • The ACC also ranks second among all FBS conferences in non-conference wins (47), non-conference wins versus Power 4 foes (9) and most wins over teams with a winning percentage above .500 or better (43).

ACC Winning Record vs. Peer Power 4 Conferences
  • Going into postseason bowl play, the ACC has a winning record over both the Big Ten (3-2) and the Big 12 (3-2).
  • No other conference has more non-conference wins versus the SEC (3) than the ACC this season.
  • The ACC played the most games versus its peer Power 4 conferences this season. Including games versus Notre Dame, the ACC played a total of 26 non-conference games versus either the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC or Notre Dame.

Clemson Wins the ACC Football Championship Game
  • Clemson (10-3, 7-1 ACC) won the program’s ninth ACC Football Championship Game and 22nd overall ACC Title with a 34-31 win over No. 8 SMU on Saturday, December 7, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • The Tigers’ Cade Klubnik threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns, Nolan Hauser kicked a 56-yard field goal as time expired and the No. 17 Clemson knocked off No. 8 SMU in the title game.
  • Hauser’s field goal was the longest in ACC Championship Game history and provided the first-ever walk-off win in ACC Football Championship Game history.
  • Bryant Wesco had eight catches for 143 yards and two TDs in the first quarter for the Tigers, who needed a win to get into the expanded 12-team playoffs. Jake Briningstool added two short TD receptions as Clemson improved to 9-1 in ACC championship games under coach Dabo Swinney.
  • Kevin Jennings threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns and ran a score for SMU (11-1, 8-0 ACC), which had gone 8-0 in the regular season in its first year since in the ACC after moving over from the American Athletic Conference.
