CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior guard Olivia Miles has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Georgia Tech guard Dani Carnegie earned Rookie of the Week honors for games played between December 23-29.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Miles became the first player in ACC history to post back-to-back triple-doubles, as she helped third-ranked Notre Dame to a 95-54 win over Virginia with 11 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 14 assists. The triple-double was also Miles’ sixth of her career, tying her with former standout Alyssa Thomas for the conference record. By stuffing the stat sheet on Sunday, the Phillipsburg, New Jersey, native also became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 500 career assists, joining Lindsay Allen and Skylar Diggins. This is the second weekly award for Miles this season.
Carnegie dropped in 24 points, including four 3-pointers, with five rebounds and a pair of steals in No. 13 Georgia Tech’s 100-61 home victory over Pitt on Sunday. The Mount Vernon, New York, native finished 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from the field and notched her fourth game this season with 20 or more points, including her last two outings. Winning the ACC Rookie of the Week award for the fourth time this season, Carnegie currently leads all ACC freshmen in scoring at 15.1 points per game.
Six ACC teams are currently ranked in the Associated Press (AP) Top 25, headlined by Notre Dame remaining at No. 3. Georgia Tech is No. 13, Duke is No. 14, North Carolina is No. 17, California climbed a spot to No. 20 and NC State is No. 22.
