CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The 2024 ACC Fencing Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday at Notre Dame's Castellan Family Fencing Center in South Bend, Indiana. The championships begin at 8 a.m. Saturday with the men’s individual round robin. The women’s individual round robin starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The team competition will be held Sunday, with the men kicking things off at 8 a.m. and the women opening at 12:15 p.m.
The men’s and women’s individual semifinals and finals, as well as the team championship, will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra. Coverage of the men’s semifinals and finals begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, while the women’s semifinals and finals start at 7 p.m. Saturday. Team finals coverage begins at 8 a.m. (men’s) and 12:15 p.m. (women’s) on Sunday.
Boston College, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame will be battling for championships this weekend. In the midseason USFCA Coaches’ poll, Notre Dame (1) and Duke (10) were ranked on the men’s side. In the women’s poll, Notre Dame (2) and Duke (5) were ranked.
Notre Dame is the two-time reigning champion on both the men’s and women’s sides. The men and women each earned their seventh ACC titles in 2023 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. North Carolina owns the most men’s team titles all-time with eight, while Notre Dame leads in women’s team championships.
This is the 20th edition of the ACC Fencing Championships. The ACC held a men’s fencing championship annually for 10 years from 1971 through 1980 but discontinued it after the 1980 season. With the addition of Notre Dame in 2014-15, the ACC has four fencing programs for both men and women with Boston College, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame. The ACC reinstituted the championship in 2015, also adding the women’s championship. When it joins the league for the 2024-25 academic year, Stanford will become the ACC’s fifth member to sponsor fencing.
Notre Dame is serving as host for the ACC Fencing Championships for the third time (2016, 2020).
