SOUTH BEND, Ind. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame swept the gold medals Saturday in the individual competition Saturday at the 2024 ACC Fencing Championships, which were held at Notre Dame’s Castellan Family Fencing Center in South Bend, Indiana.
The Fighting Irish claimed 12 of the 18 medals, while Boston College, Duke and North Carolina each notched two.
The team competition will be held Sunday, with the men beginning at 8 a.m. and the women starting at 12:15 p.m. ACC Network Extra will have live coverage.
Notre Dame claimed seven of the nine men’s medals, including all of the gold and silver medals and a sweep of the medals in foil. Luke Linder repeated as the men’s sabre champion, holding off teammate Grant Dodrill, 15-13, in a tight battle for the gold. Noah Silvers claimed the epee championship following his 15-4 triumph over Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle. Dominic Joseph completed Notre Dame’s sweep of the men’s gold medals, slipping past teammate Mason Stanley in the foil final, 15-14.
The Fighting Irish women took five of the nine podium spots, while winning the gold in all three events. Atara Greenbaum scored the final five points to rally and win the sabre championship, 15-14, over North Carolina’s Sophia Kovacs. Sedna Gandhi won the epee crown, topping North Carolina’s Nicole Milewski, 15-9, in the title bout. Josephina Conway then claimed the foil championship with a 15-9 victory over Duke’s Christina Ferrari.
