CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – A pair of four-time conference champions in Virginia Tech’s Mekhi Lewis and NC State’s Trent Hidlay headlined the NCAA seedings for Atlantic Coast Conference wrestlers, as the bracket was unveiled Wednesday night for the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which will be held March 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The ACC’s 36-wrestler contingent is led by No. 1 seed Lewis at 174 pounds and Hidlay as the No. 2 seed at 197 pounds. NC State’s Kai Orine (133) and Jackson Arrington (149) are seeded No. 3 in their respective weight classes, while teammates Ryan Jack (141) and Ed Scott (157) are the No. 4 seeds in their weight classes.
A total of 10 of the 36 ACC wrestlers that will represent the conference at the NCAA Championship this year have earned All-America honors at least once during their collegiate careers, highlighted by multiple honors from Lewis (2019, 2022, and 2023), Hidlay (2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023), Bryce Andonian (2022 and 2023) and Sam Latona (2021 and 2023).
NC State, the 2024 ACC champions, and Virginia Tech both lead all ACC teams with a wrestler in each of the 10 weight classes. Pitt placed seven wrestlers in the field, followed by North Carolina with five and Virginia with four wrestlers each.
This marks the fifth year in which all 33 wrestlers in each of the 10 NCAA weight classes are seeded. The 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship will run as a double-elimination tournament, and the top eight finishers in each weight class will earn All-America honors. Wrestlers will also score team points for every win.
Each match will last seven minutes unless it ends early with a fall or a tech fall. The tournament will run across six sessions. All individual championship matches will be held during Session 6 on Saturday, March 23.
