CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame graduate attackman Jake Taylor claimed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Syracuse goalie Will Mark was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
Taylor scored a season-high seven goals in the Fighting Irish’s 19-9 win over No. 18 Michigan, matching the most goals scored by an ACC player in a game this season. The native of Denver, Colorado, finished one goal shy of his own program record of eight goals, which came in 2022. He also was very efficient in his attack, scoring his seven goals on just nine shots. The Irish’s 19 goals in the win are tied for the most goals allowed this season by the Wolverines.
A native of Danville, California, Mark racked up 17 saves on Saturday in the Orange’s 14-6 victory over No. 20 Delaware. Behind his 73.9 save percentage, Mark and his defense held Delaware to fewer than half of its goals per game average (13.00) in 2024. The Orange pitched a 31-minute shutout streak in the middle of the game, while allowing just one goal over the final 42 minutes of the contest. Mark made 12 saves during the Blue Hens' scoring drought. Mark also became just the 15th NCAA Division I goalie to make 800-plus career saves.
All five ACC squads are ranked again this week in the latest USILA poll, with Notre Dame (2), Duke (3), Virginia (4), Syracuse (T5) and North Carolina (16) all in the top 20.
Virginia entertains Albany at 4 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference action. ACC play begins Wednesday with a top-five matchup between No. 3 Duke and No. 5 Syracuse at 7 p.m. in Syracuse, New York. There are four non-conference games set for this weekend, highlighted by Duke’s trip to No. 5 Denver on Sunday at 2 p.m.
