CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – A national champion, multiple All-Americans, and nine league championships headline the 2023-24 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field season honors, the league announced Thursday.
The honorees were selected via a vote of the league’s head coaches:

ACC Women’s Indoor Freshman of the Year

ACC Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year
Chris Miltenberg, North Carolina
ACC Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year
Dave Cianelli, Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech’s Cianelli earned the ACC Women’s Indoor Coach of the Year award for the third consecutive season and the sixth time in his career. Cianelli led Virginia Tech to its third consecutive ACC championship, totaling 92 points at the conference meet in Boston, Massachusetts.
On the men’s side, North Carolina’s Chris Miltenberg was named the ACC Men’s Indoor Coach of the Year after leading the Tar Heels to their first ACC championship since 1996. After winning the ACC’s Cross Country Coach of the Year award in the fall, Miltenberg became the first North Carolina men’s coach to win the indoor track and field honor since Dennis Craddock in 2010.
Davis repeats as the ACC Men’s Indoor Field Performer of the Year after winning the ACC championship in both the long jump and the triple jump. The Lehigh Acres, Florida, native went on to finish second at the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the long jump, while also placing third in the triple jump to earn First Team All-America honors in both events. Davis becomes the first field athlete to win back-to-back yearly awards since Virginia’s Jordan Scott in 2019 and 2020.
O’Brien also repeats as the ACC Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Year, becoming the first women’s field athlete to win consecutive titles since Duke’s Megan Clark in 2015 and 2016. O’Brien repeated as the NCAA champion in the women’s pentathlon after winning the ACC’s crown just two weeks prior. The Pewaukee, Wisconsin, native broke her own facility record at the TRACK at new balance during the NCAA championships, totaling 4,497 points, surpassing the 4,329 points that she accumulated during the ACC championships.
After recording a pair of second-place finishes in the 3000-meter and 5000-meter runs at the NCAA championships, North Carolina’s Parker Wolfe was selected as the ACC Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Year. Wolfe won both the mile and 3,000-meter runs at the ACC championships and finished with 20 points, earning Men’s Track Most Valuable Performer honors. Wolfe also broke ACC records in the mile and 3,000-meters throughout the season, while also anchoring the Tar Heels’ conference record-setting distance medley relay team.
Notre Dame’s Olivia Markezich earned ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Year honors after winning a pair of ACC championships in the 3,000-meters and the distance medley relay. Markezich was also the runner-up at the NCAA championships in both events. During the regular season, the Woodinville, Washington, native ran the second-fastest 3,000-meter time in NCAA history, clocking in at 8:40.42.
Louisville’s Cade DeWitt becomes the first Cardinal, male or female, to ever be named ACC Indoor Freshman of the Year. DeWitt earned the silver medal at the ACC championships in the pole vault after finishing in the top four of all six regular season meets in which he competed. The Bentonville, Arkansas, native set Louisville’s program record after a 5.32-meter vault at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
After winning the ACC Cross Country Freshman of the Year award in the fall, Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich continued her dominant debut by winning the ACC Indoor Women’s Freshman of the Year. Chepngetich became the first Tiger to win the award since 2012, sweeping her regular season meets with first-place finishes in the 600-meters, 800-meters and mile events. A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Chepngetich earned Second Team All-America and Second Team All-ACC after strong showings in the 800-meters.
