SU’s Baxter, BC’s Dolce Earn ACC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse senior midfielder Maddy Baxter was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Boston College sophomore goalkeeper Shea Dolce was selected ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Baxter also earned AXIA Time Women’s Division I Player of the Week honors from Inside Lacrosse, while Dolce was named the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s National Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Whitby, Ontario, Baxter scored a career-high five goals to lead Syracuse to a come-from-behind, 15-14 win at No. 9 Virginia on Saturday. Three of her goals came during a 4-0 scoring run that helped the Orange erase an early 5-1 deficit. Her final goal of the day tied the score at 14-14 as Syracuse went on to win and remain undefeated in ACC play. The victory was Syracuse’s third against a top-10 opponent this season and extended the Orange’s winning streak to four games.

Dolce recorded her best performance of the season in the Eagles’ 18-3 road win over Duke. The goalkeeper played a pivotal role in holding the Blue Devils to a season low in goals and their lowest offensive outing since 2012. Hailing from Darien, Connecticut, Dolce made a season-high 11 saves and posted a .786 save percentage, which is a career best when facing at least 20 shots. It was the fourth time in Dolce's career that she finished with double-digit saves. Dolce is first in the ACC in goals against average at 7.84 and third in save percentage at .450.

Five ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IL Women/IWLCA poll, including four in the top 10, with Boston College (4), Syracuse (5), Notre Dame (6), Virginia (8) and North Carolina (13). The ACC is tied for the most teams in the poll among all conferences.

A pair of non-conference games will be televised Wednesday, with No. 5 Syracuse playing host to No. 7 Loyola at 4 p.m. on ESPNU, and Louisville entertaining Xavier at 7 p.m. on ACC Network.

Five league games are scheduled Saturday, including a matchup of ranked teams in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, as No. 4 BC entertains No. 13 UNC at noon on ACC Network in a rematch of the 2023 ACC Championship game.
