CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference, in conjunction with the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF) and its Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) initiative, celebrated the unveiling of a fully renovation Winding Springs Elementary music room. The unveiling took place Thursday morning at the school, which is a part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.
The makeover impacts more than 800 students at Winding Springs from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, their teachers, staff and administration. The Winding Springs Elementary makeover was part of an annual partnership in which the ACC and CFPF teamed up to support teachers in Charlotte and throughout the ACC footprint.
“The ACC is proud to continue its partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation to celebrate the tireless work and dedication of our teachers,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “Education is a cornerstone of the ACC, and its soon-to-be 18-member institutions, and we celebrate the incredible work of teachers and their direct impact on the future of our country. It was an incredible experience to watch the excitement of the students and teachers as they saw their new music room for the first time. Our entire office will continue its dedication to providing essential resources in building a brighter future for students across Charlotte communities.”
Since the inception of the ACC and CFPF partnership, over $1.2 million has been given to support teachers in the ACC footprint. During the 2023-24 school year, the CFPF and ACC supported over 4,000 students.
The ACC announced in September 2023 that it would remodel a local Charlotte Mecklenburg School space as the conference pledged to make an impact within the Charlotte community. The conference was pleased to announce that Winding Springs Elementary was the recipient of a $50,000 Extra Yard makeover.
In addition to the Extra Yard makeover, the ACC also invited all the students and teachers of Winding Springs Elementary to the 2023 ACC Football Championship Game between Florida State and Louisville on Dec. 7, 2023, in Bank of America Stadium.
