The title was the second in program history for the top-seeded Fighting Irish, who concluded the season with 14 straight wins and a 16-1 record. This marked Notre Dame’s fourth championship game appearance under head coach Kevin Corrigan – all coming since 2010.
The ACC has now won 19 NCAA Championships in men’s lacrosse, including four of the last five. The five active ACC teams have combined for 27 national championships, including 11 of the last 16.
Notre Dame was the 38th ACC team to reach the national championship game. The ACC has had at least one team in the national championship game in 16 of the last 21 seasons.
Notre Dame men’s lacrosse is the ACC's seventh team national champion this season, from seven different schools. The ACC also has captured titles in women's cross country (NC State), field hockey (North Carolina), women’s soccer (Florida State), men’s soccer (Clemson), women's swimming & diving (Virginia) and women’s lacrosse (Boston College).
The Kavanagh brothers were brilliant once again, with Chris Kavanagh scoring five goals and Pat Kavanagh recording six assists. Ten Fighting Irish players scored goals in the game.
