CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheACC.com) – For the second consecutive year, Wake Forest’s Rachel Kuehn was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the 2024 All-ACC Academic Team announced Monday.
The 2024 ACC Women’s Golf Individual Champion, Kuehn was named the ACC Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season. The graduate student helped lead the Demon Deacons to the program’s eighth ACC Women’s Golf Championship and third in the last six years.
The 2024 Golfweek First-Team All-American and WGCA Second-Team All-American led Wake Forest to a ninth-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, carding a 72-hole score of 2-over, 290, to finish in a tie for 16th overall.
At the ACC Championship, Kuehn shot a final-round 5-under, 67, to finish the three rounds of stroke play with a 54-hole score of 10-under, 206, and picked up medalist honors at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Asheville, North Carolina, native joined her mother Brenda Corrie-Kuehn as an ACC Women’s Golf Individual Champion, becoming the first-known mother-daughter to do so in ACC history. Corrie-Kuehn was the ACC Women’s Golf Individual Champion in 1986.
Counting Kuehn, a total of 13 of the 15 student-athletes who earned All-ACC honors this season also secured spots on the All-ACC Academic Team, including ACC Women’s Golf Player of the Year Lottie Woad of Florida State and ACC Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year Macy Pate of Wake Forest.
In addition to Kuehn, Woad and Pate, other players who earned All-ACC and All-ACC Academic honors were: Annabelle Pancake (Clemson), Katie Li (Duke), Emma McMyler (Duke), Mirabel Ting (Florida State), Sara Byrne (Miami), Megan Streicher (North Carolina), Lauren Beaudreau (Notre Dame), Amanda Sambach (Virginia), Carolina Lopez-Chacarra (Wake Forest) and Mimi Rhodes (Wake Forest).
Ten of the 12 teams had five honorees or more, led by Boston College, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech with six recipients each.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
