ACC Student-Athletes Excel Once Again in NCAA APR Report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Atlantic Coast Conference teams continue to excel academically, which is again evident from the annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) team data released by the NCAA on Tuesday.

Each Division I institution is responsible for the academic progress of its student-athletes through the APR. The APR is a team-based metric that considers the eligibility and retention of each scholarship student-athlete each term.

Every team among the ACC’s 28-sponsored sports exceeded the NCAA’s required APR (930), while 96 ACC teams recorded a perfect score of 1000, including at least one from each of the 15-member institutions led by Notre Dame with 16 teams and Duke with 14 teams.

The ACC’s average of 991 is up two points from last year’s 989, while football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball all increased as well.
  • Football’s average of 985 is up seven from last year's 978.
  • Men’s basketball average of 980 is up 11 points from last year’s 969.
  • Women’s basketball average of 992 is up one from last year’s 991.
“Our student-athletes consistently demonstrate exceptional performance both academically and athletically, and today’s APR report is just another example," stated ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. "We take great pride in the unrelenting achievement of our programs and applaud the student-athletes, coaches and administrators who work tirelessly in prioritizing success."
