ACC Names Week 2 Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Seven student-athletes from three schools have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week. Miami’s Gabriella Grissom represented the Hurricanes, while Clemson and Florida State earned weekly honors for three student-athletes apiece.

Grissom was named the ACC Co-Women’s Track Athlete of the Week after running the fastest 600-meter time in conference history. The junior from Fayetteville, Georgia, ran a 1:26.89 in the event, breaking Miami’s program record by more than a second. Her time matches BYU’s Sami Oblad in 2024 as the sixth-fastest time in NCAA history in the event and is the fastest throughout the country this season.

Sharing the Co-Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors with Grissom was Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich, who ran the fastest time in ACC history in the 300-meter. Chepngetich’s time of 2:39.99 in the event set a new Clemson school and facility record, while also clocking in as the fastest 300-meter time in the world this season. The sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, now boasts the third-fastest time in NCAA history in the event.

Florida State’s Tyler Azcano was named the ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after an impressive showing in the 60-meter dash at the Clemson Invitational. After missing the 2023-24 season with an injury, Azcano set a personal-best in his return to competition, clocking a 6.60 in the preliminary rounds. His time is the fastest in the ACC this season and ranks fourth in the country. In the finals, the sophomore from Clermont, Florida, ran a 6.63 to cross the finish line in first.

The Seminoles swept the men’s weekly awards with Kvyon Tatham being named the ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week and Micahi Danzy earning ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honors. Tatham opened his season with a strong showing at the Clemson Invitational, winning the triple jump. The Miami, Florida, native lept 15.89 meters, climbing atop the ACC performance list for the season and ranking second in the country. His jump ranks as the seventh-longest in Florida State history.

Danzy made the transition from the football field to the track look seamless as he contributed to the Seminoles’ 4x400-meter relay team’s second-place finish. During the third leg of the race, the Tallahassee, Florida, native clocked a 45.11-second split. A dual-sport athlete, Danzy also plays running back for the Seminoles.

Clemson’s Shantae Foreman was tabbed as the ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after an impressive triple jump showing in the Tigers’ home meet. Foreman, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, leads both the ACC and NCAA after leaping 13.84-meters at the Clemson Invitational. The mark also moves Foreman into second-place in Clemson history, just one-hundredth of a meter behind Patricia Mamona’s program record set in 2010.

The Tigers also received a strong showing in the 200-meter dash from Aniyah Kitt. The freshman from Enterprise, Alabama, claimed her second ACC Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honor after running a 23.16 in the 200-meters, setting the top time in the ACC and second-fastest time in the country this season. Her time is also the fifth-fastest in Clemson history.
