CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Six student-athletes from five schools have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week. California led the week with two Performer of the Week selections, while Louisville, Stanford, Virginia, and Virginia Tech each had one student-athlete earn a weekly award.
Cal’s David Foster won his 60-meter dash prelim race with a time of 6.57 seconds before turning in 6.54-second time in the finals – good for a second-place finish at the Spokane Indoor Challenge. Foster’s 60-meter time is the fastest in the ACC this season and ranks third nationally. His prelim time tied his own school record, while also moving into second-place in Cal history after taking home the gold and clocking a 21.22-second 200-meter dash.
Stanford’s Roisin Willis won the 600-meter run at the UW Indoor Preview in Seattle, Washington, clocking a 1:25.74 on the event. The time broke the meet, facility, and Stanford records in the event and is the second-fastest time in collegiate indoor history.
In his Virginia debut, Jeremiah Nubbe broke both the ACC and program in the men’s weight throw. Nubbe set an ACC-leading mark of 23.94 meters at the Virginia Tech Invitational, which ranks third in the country this season. The previous ACC record of 23.83 meters had gone untouched since the 2018 season.
Virginia Tech’s Sara Killinen kicked off her indoor season by tying her career-best performance of 22.66 meters in the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Her mark leads both the ACC and the NCAA throughout the season and is the best in the ACC by nearly two meters.
Valentina Savva made her collegiate debut on Friday for the Golden Bears, taking home second-place in the weight throw. Her mark of 19.61 meters ranks sixth in Cal history while also leading all freshmen throughout the country. Overall, Savva mark ranks sixth in the ACC this season.
KJ Byrd made his collegiate debut for Louisville at the Bellarmine Open, competing in both the pole vault and 400-meter. Byrd, the 2024 USATF U-20 champion in the decathlon, finished as the runner-up in the men's pole vault with a final clearance of 5.10 meters, which is tied for fifth in the ACC and fifth in Louisville program history. He then doubled back for the 400-meters, where he clocked a time of 50.75 seconds to close his collegiate debut.
