ACC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State junior guard Ta’Niya Latson has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Duke forward Toby Fournier earned Rookie of the Week honors for games played between January 20-26.

ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Latson dropped in a layup as time expired to give the Seminoles their first ranked win of the season with an 86-84 victory at No. 13 North Carolina on Sunday, January 26. For the day, the Miami, Florida, native finished with a game-high 25 points, including 17 in the second half, to help seal FSU’s third straight win over the Tar Heels in the all-time series. With the 25-point performance, Latson leads the ACC with 17 games of 20-points or more and the country in scoring with 26.5 points per game.

Fournier averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds and shot 60.0 percent (12-for-20) from the field to lead Duke to a pair of road ACC victories over SMU and No. 18 Georgia Tech. On Thursday, January 23, the Toronto, Ontario, native led all scorers with 24 points in 26 minutes off the bench in an 81-46 win over SMU. The 20-point effort was her fifth of the season, the most on the team. On Sunday, the freshman dropped in six points and matched a team-high with eight rebounds in a narrow 55-50 win over the Yellow Jackets.

Seven ACC teams are in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top 25 poll with Notre Dame continuing to lead the way at No. 3 for the seventh straight week. Duke climbed four spots to No. 10, North Carolina is No. 15, NC State and California each moved up three spots to No. 17 and No. 19, respectively, while Georgia Tech is No. 20. Rounding out the poll at No. 25 is Florida State, which returned to the Top 25 for the first time since the preseason.

The ACC Women’s Basketball action continues Thursday, January 30, with seven matchups on the conference slate. ACC Network will host a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. ET when No. 25 FSU hits the road to Boston College, followed by Louisville visiting SMU at 8 p.m. ET.
