CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Seven student-athletes from five schools have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week. Clemson and Virginia Tech led the week with two Performer of the Week selections, while California, North Carolina and Virginia each had one student-athlete earn a weekly award.
Virginia Tech’s Julia Fixsen and California’s Giavonna Meeks split the ACC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after both student-athletes posted an NCAA-leading mark. Fixsen set a new personal-best in the pole vault, jumping 4.58 meters (15-0.25) on Saturday, January 25, to reclaim her place atop the NCAA leaderboard. Her mark is just four-hundredths of a meter away from tying the ACC record, which has stood since 2022.
Meeks became the first collegiate woman to record a weight throw mark greater than 23 meters this season at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her collegiate-best mark of 23.55 meters (77-3.25) ranks first in the country this season and second in Cal program history. After her incredible weight throw performance, the Denver, Colorado, native also posted Cal’s fifth-best shot put mark in program history at 15.22 meters (49-11.25), which ranks eighth in the ACC this season.
North Carolina’s Tommy Kitchell has been named the ACC Indoor Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after another strong showing in the shot put. Kitchell continues to climb the Tar Heels’ record books and ranks second nationally in the event with a mark of 19.69 meters (64-7.25). His ACC-leading mark also moved him into second place in North Carolina history.
Clemson’s Gladys Chepngetich earned her second ACC Indoor Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honor of the season after a strong showing at the Orange and Purple Invitational. She won the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.69, which leads the ACC and ranks third nationally. The sophomore also ran the anchor leg in the Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay team, which clocked a time of 3:34.49 to lead the ACC, rank 10th nationally and third in Clemson program history.
On his way to winning the ACC Indoor Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Virginia Tech’s Judson Lincoln IV anchored the Hokies’ 4x400-meter relay team that broke the ACC and program records, finishing in 3:03.99. Lincoln’s 400-meter split time of 44.84 seconds is the fastest of any split nationally this season and helped the Hokies break the conference record by 0.29 seconds. In the 200-meter, the Columbia, Maryland, native ran a 20.70-second time, which leads the ACC and ranks ninth nationally.
For the third time this season, Clemson’s Aniyah Kitt was tabbed as the ACC Indoor Women’s Freshman of the Week after winning the 60-meter dash at the Orange and Purple Invitational. The freshman won the event in 7.22 seconds, which ties her for third in program history. In her debut campaign, Kitt has now entered the Clemson record books with top-10 times in three separate events.
Virginia’s Caleb Holman earned ACC Indoor Men’s Freshman of the Week honors after winning the triple jump at the Penn 10 Elite. On his second attempt, the freshman from Charleston, South Carolina, lept 15.15 meters (49-8.5) in the event to secure the victory. His mark ranks third in the ACC this season and second nationally among freshmen in the triple jump.
