This Week in ACC Wrestling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – With the holiday in-season tournaments complete, all seven of the Atlantic Coast Conference wrestling programs will now turn their attention to dual-match action, starting with three ACC duals this weekend, on Friday, January 10, and three non-conference top-25 matches on Sunday, January 12.
 
ACC competition kicks off on Friday with three dual bouts. Duke will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, to face off with No. 5 NC State at 5 p.m. ET, while No. 18 Pitt will host No. 15 Stanford for the Cardinal's first ACC dual at 7 p.m. ET. No. 8 Virginia Tech will hit the road to square off with No. 25 North Carolina in the two teams' ACC opener at 5 p.m. ET. All three matches will be streamed live on ACCNX.
 
On Tuesday, January 14, Duke will host Gardner-Webb at 3 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
 
In addition to two top-25 matches in conference action on Friday, three ACC teams will be on the road to take on top-25 teams in non-conference duals on Sunday. No. 18 Pitt will take on No. 22 West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl Dual in Morgantown, West Virginia, at 1 p.m. ET, while No. 5 NC State will travel west to face off with No. 3 Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. ET in Stillwater, Oklahoma. No. 15 Stanford will also head to the Midwest on Sunday, as the Cardinal will square off with No. 21 Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, at 3 p.m. ET. All three matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
The ACC Friday Night Duals will return this season to ACC Network beginning on January 24, with five straight weeks of conference matchups. Veteran play-by-play announcer Shawn Kenney and analyst Rock Harrison will be on the call for the sixth straight year.

Noting ACC Wrestling
  • The ACC had five teams ranked in the most recent top 25 of the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll (January 7). For the first time this year, NC State moved into the top five at No. 5. Virginia Tech stayed at No. 8 and Stanford remained at No. 15. Pitt stayed at No. 18 again this week, while North Carolina came in at No. 25.
  • In the most recent InterMat Individual rankings (January 6), a season-high 47 wrestlers out of the ACC were ranked in the top 33 of their respective weight classes, including at least five wrestlers over six different weight classes - 125, 133, 149, 157, 165 and 174. Led by Virginia Tech's Caleb Henson ranked at No. 1 at 149 pounds, nine ACC grapplers are ranked in the top 10 nationally, including three at 149 pounds and two at the 133-pound weight class.
  • Overall, the seven ACC wrestling teams are a combined 30-15 in dual matches over the first 10 weeks of the season, including posting a 15-7 at home and a 7-3 record in true road bouts.
  • ESPN and the ACC announced that ACC Friday Night Duals will return this season to ACC Network with five straight weeks of conference matchups, beginning on January 24.
  • Virginia’s Dylan Cedeno (141 pounds) was named the ACC Wrestler of the Week for Week 10, including matches from January 3-5.
  • With the addition of Stanford, the ACC now has seven programs that sponsor wrestling – Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
