Jay Sartori Named ACC Vice President for Sport Technology and Innovation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the hiring of Jay Sartori as Vice President, Sport Technology and Innovation. Sartori steps into the newly-created position after spending the last 10 years in the Detroit Tigers’ organization, most recently as the team’s assistant general manager.

“We are excited to welcome Jay to the ACC as he brings an impressive breadth of experience to this important new position,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “His time in Major League Baseball and with Apple will serve us well as he spearheads the elevation of our technology and innovation strategy and implementation. His role will extend beyond sports technology into data and analytics, which will greatly benefit the ACC and our membership.”

Sartori will lead the planning, development, implementation and execution of initiatives that integrate and maximize the use of technology across ACC games, events and broadcasts. This includes technologies used by ACC staff, game officials, coaches, players and team support personnel, as well as those designed for fan engagement and innovation across ACC-sponsored sports.

Sartori spent the last four years with the Detroit Tigers as Vice President and Assistant General Manager after serving as the club’s Senior Director of Baseball Analytics. He oversaw the team’s baseball analytics, research and development, performance science, advance scouting, data operations and software engineering teams. He contributed to all aspects of Baseball Operations, including player personnel decisions, roster management, strategy analysis, contract negotiations, and rules and administration.

“I’m tremendously excited to join the ACC under the leadership of Commissioner Phillips,” Sartori said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues across the conference to deliver the very best support and innovation to our schools, student-athletes and fans, and to help our programs compete and win at the highest level.”

Prior to his time with the Tigers, Sartori spent two years at Apple, Inc., where he managed the App Store Sports and Entertainment categories, and then App Store Business Operations. He also previously served as the assistant general manager for the Toronto Blue Jays (2011-13) and Director of Baseball Operations with the Washington Nationals (2010).

Sartori worked with Major League Baseball’s Labor Relations Department from 2006-09 as the Manager of Salary and Contract Administration. Prior to his time with Major League Baseball, he worked in the investment banking industry for Robertson Stephens and Pacific Growth Equities.

Originally from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, Sartori graduated from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Management Information Systems.
