UNC’s Wilson, VT’s Avdalas Share First ACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors for 2025-26 Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman forward Caleb Wilson and Virginia Tech freshman guard Neoklis Avdalas shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the first set of ACC weekly awards for the 2025-26 season, as announced Monday.
 
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.
 
Caleb Wilson, Fr., F, North Carolina (Atlanta, Georgia)
• Averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists and shot 81.0% from the floor (17 for 21) in UNC’s wins over Central Arkansas and No. 19 Kansas. Led all players in scoring in each of the games.
• Scored 22 points on Monday, November 3, versus Central Arkansas, the fourth-most points by a Tar Heel freshman in his first college game.
• Led the Tar Heels to an 87-74 win over 19th-ranked Kansas on Friday, November 7, with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
• Became the first Tar Heel freshman ever to score more than 20 points in his first two games, and just the third to do that regardless of class.
• Was the second Tar Heel freshman to total at least 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals in a game, joining Coby White against Virginia Tech in 2019.
 
Neoklis Avdalas, Fr., G, Virginia Tech (Kalamata, Greece)
• Shined in his first two collegiate games, leading the Hokies in scoring at 20.5 points per game and assists at 7.5 per game, as Virginia Tech defeated Charleston Southern and Providence.
• On Saturday, the native of Kalamata, Greece, put on a clinic, guiding the Hokies past Providence in overtime with a 33-point performance, including five 3-pointers, that also included five rebounds and six assists. His stat line is the first for a Tech player since February of 2021.
• The 33-point effort marked the highest-scoring output by any freshman in Division I last week. His 30-point game was the first for a VT freshman since Landers Nolley in 2019.
• In the season-opening win over Charleston Southern on Monday, he tallied eight points and led all players with nine assists.
