CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman forward Cameron Boozer and Louisville freshman guard Mikel Brown Jr. shared Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week honors for games played from November 10-16, as announced Monday.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.
Cameron Boozer, Fr., F, Duke (Miami, Florida)
• Averaged 25.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocked shots per game, while shooting 70.8% from the field and 50.0% on 3-point attempts during the Blue Devils' 2-0 week.
• In a 100-62 win against Indiana State on Friday, November 14, Boozer amassed 35 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks, connecting on 13-of-16 field goals and both of his 3-point shots in 29 minutes of action. He became the first major conference freshman to reach 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists with no more than one turnover since Carmelo Anthony of Syracuse in 2003.
• Joined Zion Williamson (2019) and Christian Laettner (1990) as the third Duke player in the past 45 years to record 30 points and 10 rebounds in a game. His total of 35 points is tied for second among Duke's freshman single-game scoring leaders.
• On Tuesday, November 11, in a 114-59 victory at Army, he tallied 15 points, nine boards, four assists, two steals and two rejections in 26 minutes.
Mikel Brown Jr., Fr., G, Louisville (Orlando, Florida)
• Dominated in Louisville’s two victories last week, averaging 24.0 points and 6.0 assists per game.
• Led the Cardinals to a 96-88 win over No. 9/8 Kentucky and a 106-81 victory over Ohio. He shot 48.1 percent over the two contests and 37.5 percent from long range.
• In the Battle of the Bluegrass, he led all scorers with 29 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. He dished out five assists against just a single turnover while also adding two boards. He played 33 minutes in the rivalry contest and was nearly perfect from the charity stripe, going 10 of 11.
• With 29 points against UK, he scored the fourth-most points by any ACC freshman against a top 10 non-conference opponent since 2010-11.
• On Saturday against Ohio, he neared a double-double with 19 points and seven assists. He netted 3-of-6 attempts from 3-point range while adding a steal in his 27 minutes of action.
