ACC Announces Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville senior forward Laura Ziegler and Stanford junior forward Courtney Ogden were named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Players of the Week, while Cardinal forward Lara Somfai earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played between December 8-14.

ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

CO-PLAYER – Laura Ziegler, Sr., F, Louisville (Herlev, Denmark)
  • Averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in wins over Ball State and No. 12 North Carolina.
  • Shot 10-for-21 (47.1 percent) from the field, 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) from 3-point range and finished a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
  • Posted a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds in a key road league victory at No. 12 North Carolina.
  • Logged 42 minutes against the Tar Heels without committing a turnover.

CO-PLAYER – Courtney Ogden, Jr., F, Stanford (Atlanta, Georgia)
  • Scored a career-high 25 points on 10-for-12 (83.3 percent) shooting in Sunday’s 78-69 win over California.
  • Added seven rebounds and a pair of assists in the victory.
  • Recorded just the 14th performance in the country this season in which a player scored 25 points on at least 80.0 percent shooting, and the only one against a major conference opponent.
  • The first Stanford player since 2022 to record 25 points on 80.0 percent from the field and seven boards.
  • The first ACC player to total 25 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block, and shoot 80.0 percent or better from the field since Georgia Tech’s Tyaunna Marshall in 2014.

ROOKIE – Lara Somfai, Fr., F, Stanford (Adelaide, Australia)
  • Registered her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds in Sunday’s 78-69 win over in-state rival California.
  • Added a career-high three blocks, becoming the first Cardinal freshman since 2021 with 12 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks in a game.
  • One of only three freshmen in the country this season with a 12-point, 13-rebound and 3-block performance.
  • Her four double-doubles on the season are the most by a Stanford freshman since the 2019-20 campaign.

Women’s Basketball Notes
  • ACC teams have accumulated 117 nonconference victories this season.
  • ACC teams have played 27 games against teams inside the Associated Press (AP) Poll (28 against teams inside the USA Today Coaches Poll), the most among peer power conferences.
  • Three teams are currently ranked in the AP Poll: Louisville (No. 16), North Carolina (No. 18) and Notre Dame (No. 20). NC State is currently receiving votes.
