Wake’s Colvin, VT’s Avdalas Claim ACC Men’s Basketball Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest junior guard Myles Colvin earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, and Virginia Tech freshman guard Neoklis Avdalas notched the ACC Rookie of the Week distinction for games played from December 8-14, as announced Monday.

Avdalas was tabbed ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season (November 10), while Colvin picked up his first ACC Player of the Week honor.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.

Myles Colvin, Jr., G, Wake Forest (Indianapolis, Indiana)
• Scored a career-high 33 points on 11-of-13 shooting, while going 7-of-8 from three to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Demon Deacons’ 111-73 win on Sunday against Queens.
• Scored 26 of his 33 points in the first half, most by a Demon Deacon since Randolph Childress scored 27 in a half against Duke on March 10, 1995, in the ACC Tournament.
• Making his first seven three-point attempts, Colvin matched Jonah Antonio (Feb. 13, 2021) for the best 3-point shooting percentage in a single game in program history on eight attempts.
• First ACC player this season to shoot 84 percent or better on at least 13 attempts and just the 13th player nationally this season to do so against a Division I opponent.
• His eight rebounds matched a career high, while his total of 33 points is tied for the fourth-most by a Demon Deacon in the Steve Forbes era (2020-21 season).
• Just the 13th player this season to record 33 points and eight rebounds in a single game, joining Duke’s Cameron Boozer as the only ACC players to hit those marks.

Neoklis Avdalas, Fr., G, Virginia Tech (Kalamata, Greece)
• Averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds and shot 54 percent from the field in the Hokies’ wins over Western Carolina and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
• Recorded his second 30-point game of the season on Thursday with a 30-point effort against Western Carolina. He scored 24 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers. He became the second ACC athlete to record two 30-point games this season (Boozer).
• On Sunday, he again led the Hokies in scoring with 16 points against UMES as Virginia Tech extended its win streak to four games.
• He notched seven assists against UMES, the eighth time this season he has produced five or more. On the defensive end he recorded three steals, a season high.
