ACC Names Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Five student-athletes and a relay team from five different Atlantic Coast Conference schools have been named an ACC Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week after strong showings on Friday, February 14, and Saturday, February 15. Florida State led the way with two selections, Micahi Danzy and the women’s 4x400-meter relay team, while Boston College, Duke, North Carolina and Stanford each had one award winner for the weel.
 
Florida State’s 4x400-meter relay team was named the ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week after breaking the ACC record at the Jarvis Scott Invitational. Consisting of Takiyah Ferguson, Tyra Wilson, Alyia Green and Kaelyaah Liburd, the Seminoles clocked a time of 3:30.44, setting both a league and school record. The previous ACC record, which was held by Clemson, had stood since 2015.
 
Boston College’s Steven Jackson earned ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors after breaking the Eagles’ record in the men’s mile, clocking in  at 3:52.71. The time from Jackson broke his own school record by two seconds and is the third-fastest time in the ACC this season. Throughout the country, the Reading, Massachusetts, product ranks seventh nationally.
 
North Carolina’s Tommy Kitchell was tabbed the ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The Tar Heel shot putter recorded a mark of 20.47-meters at the Tiger Paw Invitational. His mark leads the ACC and ranks second nationally.
 
Stanford’s Alyssa Jones earned ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jones lept 6.53-meters (21-5.25) to top the field that was full of elite athletes from the west. Jones leads the ACC, while also ranking eighth nationally in the long jump this season.
 
Florida State’s Danzy continued his impressive freshman season at the Jarvis Scott Invite in Lubbock, Texas, taking third place in the 400-meter and earning ACC Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Year honors. Danzy improved to the third-fastest time in Florida State history, clocking a 46.14. It is the second ACC weekly honor for the freshman from Tallahassee, Florida.
 
Duke’s Braelyn Baker etched her name into the Duke record books three times this weekend on her way to being named the ACC Women’s Indoor Freshman of the Week. She helped break the program record in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking a 3:32.02, while etching the second-best time in Duke history in the 200-meter dash. The freshman from Carnation, Washington, also posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 400-meter, logging a 52.94. Baker ranks in the top five of the ACC in all three events.
