Notre Dame Captures 2025 ACC Men’s Fencing Team Championship

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame earned the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Fencing Team title, while the Fighting Irish won eight of the nine medals in the women’s individual competition on Saturday at the ACC Fencing Championships, which were held at North Carolina’s Eddie Smith Field House in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
 
The men’s individual competition will be contested on Sunday at 8 a.m. ET. ACC Network Extra will provide coverage of the semifinals and finals, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET. The women’s team competition will follow at 1:30 p.m. ET, with ACC Network Extra’s coverage beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET.
 
Notre Dame won its eighth ACC men’s team championship in the last 11 years. The Fighting Irish won all four of their dual meets and topped North Carolina, 17-10, in the final dual to clinch the title. UNC finished second in the team competition after winning three of its four duals. Boston College, Duke and Stanford each went 1-3 in the team competition to tie for third. The Cardinal downed Duke, 14-13, to notch their first win as they competed in their first-ever ACC Championship.
 
In the women’s individual competition, the Fighting Irish claimed eight of the nine medals, including a sweep of the gold medals with Eszter Muhari (epee), Rebeca Candescu (foil) and Magda Skarbonkiewicz (sabre).
 
In a matchup of former national champions, Muhari topped teammate Kaylin Sin Yan Hsieh, 15-11, in the final. Muhari won the 2023 national epee crown, and Hsieh was the 2022 champ. ND’s Rebeca Candescu defeated freshman teammate Ariadna Tucker, 15-13, in a tightly-contested championship bout to win her second ACC crown. The Fighting Irish’s Magda Skarbonkiewicz downed Duke’s Kunling Ton, 15-9, in the sabre final.
