CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Highlighted by a pair of distance medley relay teams, the Atlantic Coast Conference has announced its final selections for ACC Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week for the 2024-25 season. Virginia Tech leads the way with three selections this week, while North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia each have an additional honoree.
The Virginia Men's Distance Medley Relay team shattered records at the Arkansas Qualifier on its way to being named the ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week. The team of Wes Porter, Alex Sherman, Conor Murphy and Gary Martin ran the fastest legal mark in the world breaking the NCAA, ACC, facility, meet and Virginia records in the event. Virginia ran the second fastest DMR ever, second to Washington’s all-conditions 9:14.10 from one week ago on an oversized track. The Cavaliers’ DMR team was also named the USTFCCCA Division I Men’s National Athletes of the Week as well.
North Carolina’s Distance Medley Relay Team posted a school-record over the weekend to earn the title of ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athletes of the Week. After clocking a mark if 10:44.71, the quartet of Tar Heels also rank seventh-fastest throughout the NCAA and second in the ACC this season.
Virginia Tech’s Maddox Hamm was named the ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after reaching 5.57 meters in the men’s pole vault. By clearing 5.57 meters, Hamm matched his personal best mark and claimed his first event win of the season. The marked ranks third in the ACC ahead of the conference championship.
Virginia Tech’s Chiara Sistermann was named the ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after reaching a personal-best mark of 4.35 meters in the pole vault. Her mark ranks as the sixth-best in Virginia Tech history. This season, Sistermann ranks as the eighth best sophomore in the NCAA and the best in the ACC in the pole vault.
Notre Dame’s Drew Griffith ran a 4:00.58 mile at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday as he earned the title of ACC Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Week. The Malvern, Pennsylanvia, native’s time is tied for the second-fastest indoor mile time by an ACC freshman this season.
Virginia Tech’s Farah Nasir clocked a personal-best 24.54 in the 200-meter dash at the Virginia Tech Challenge to earn the title of ACC Women’s Indoor Freshman of the Week. Her times ranks as the seventh-fastest freshman in the ACC this season.
