Syracuse’s Leo, Duke’s Maguire Earn ACC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse junior midfielder Michael Leo earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Duke junior short-stick midfielder Aidan Maguire was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played during the opening weekend of the season.

Leo racked a five-point afternoon in the season-opening win over Jacksonville on Saturday, February 1, scoring four times with an assist. The native of Seaford, New York, scored all four goals in the first half, including a natural hat trick in less than two minutes. He tallied nearly half of the Orange goals in a 10-0 run to start the year.

Maguire anchored Duke’s stellar rope unit Saturday, causing two turnovers and picking up four ground balls and scoring a goal in the Blue Devils’ win over Bellarmine. With Maguire leading the charge in the defensive midfield, Duke went on a 12-0 first-half run and held Bellarmine without a goal for over 20 minutes. A native of Hingham, Massachusetts, Maguire added a goal in the third quarter while the Duke defense held Bellarmine without a goal for over 11 minutes in the second half.

All five ACC teams are ranked in the latest USILA poll, led by Notre Dame at No. 1 and Syracuse at No. 2. Virginia (5), Duke (7) and North Carolina (16) also were ranked.

Syracuse begins the ACC’s non-conference slate for this week on Friday, February 7, as it plays Vermont at home. North Carolina and Virginia begin their 2025 seasons on Saturday, February 8, as the Tar Heels play host to No. 15 Michigan and the Cavaliers entertain Colgate. Duke travels to Jacksonville on Saturday.
