UNC’s Humphrey, Syracuse’s Vandiver Earn ACC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina redshirt-freshman attacker Chloe Humphrey earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Syracuse junior defender Coco Vandiver was selected ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from March 3-9.

Humphrey totaled 11 goals and five assists to lead North Carolina to a pair of victories over Temple and No. 14 Virginia. After the Darien, Connecticut, native scored a career-high six goals and handed out two assists in a 19-3 win over the Owls on Tuesday, Humphrey led the Tar Heels with a game-high five goals and three assists in a 20-8 home triumph over the Cavaliers on Saturday. With the strong offensive performance last week, Humphrey has tallied at least three points in every game this season.

Vandiver caused a career-high six turnovers to go along with a career-high four ground balls in a 14-13 win over Stanford on Friday. The Baltimore, Maryland, native’s game was highlighted by scooping up a key ground ball in the second overtime period that led the Orange’s game winner for their second top-10 victory of the season. Vandiver’s six caused turnovers tie for second on Syracuse’s single-game record list.

Eight ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IWLCA poll, including five in the top 10, headlined by Boston College at No. 1 and North Carolina at No. 2. Also in the top 10 is Stanford (No. 7), Syracuse (No. 8) and Clemson (No. 9), while Duke is No. 13, Virginia is No. 15 and Notre Dame is No. 19.

Conference play continues this week with six matchups beginning on Thursday, March 13, headlined by a pair of ranked contests on Saturday, March 15. On ACC Network Extra, No. 13 Duke hits the road to No. 15 Virginia, while No. 9 Clemson travels to No. 2 North Carolina. Both contests are slated for noon ET.
