Raynaud, Blakes Double Up To Send Stanford Past Cal 78-73 in 2nd Round of T. Roe Price ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Maxime Raynaud scored 23 points and Jaylen Blakes scored 21 points as seventh-seed Stanford beat No. 15 seed Cal 78-73 on Wednesday, March 12, in the second round of the 2025 T. Rowe Price ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
Stanford (20-12) advances to face second-seeded Louisville on Thursday, March 13.
 
Playing for a chance to reach overtime for the third-straight game and trailing 76-73, Cal’s Mady Sissoko was called for a blocking foul attempting to set a screen for Andrej Stojakovic with 6.9 seconds remaining. Cal then intentionally fouled Raynaud, who made two free throws with five seconds left to seal it.
 
Stanford’s Benny Gealer buried a 3-pointer with 1:21 left to break a tie at 68 and Stanford led for the remainder of the evening.
 
Oziyah Sellers added 13 points for Stanford and reserve Chisom Okpara contributed 12 points off of the bench.
 
Stojakovic scored a career-high 37 points as he made his first seven shots. He had 16 points at halftime and finished 13-for-22 shooting including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. DJ Campbell added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Cal.
 
Sissoko threw down a dunk with 5:17 left in the first half to put the Bears up 30-25 before Stanford went on to outscore them 13-2 to close the half and led 38-32.
 
Cal had a slightly higher shooting percentage (56%) going 14-for-25 compared to Stanford’s 14-for-26 (53.8%) before the break. But the Cardinal had the edge behind the arc making eight to just a pair for the Bears.
 
Cal entered having played six overtime sessions in it last two games in a span of four days.

  • Wednesday’s contest was the first-ever ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament game for Stanford as the Cardinal move to 1-0 all-time in the event.
  • The Cardinal were led by Maxime Raynaud, who finished with 23 points and eight rebounds. Jaylen Blakes added 21 points in the win for Stanford.
  • For the fifth time in six games, Raynaud eclipsed the 20-point mark.
  • California’s Andrej Stojakovic opened the game 6-of-6 from the floor to score 16 first-half points.
  • Stojakovic finished with his third career 30-point game, finishing with a career-high 37 on Wednesday night.
  • Stojakovic’s 37 points are the most ever in an ACC Tournament Second Round game. His scoring effort is also the highest in an ACC Tournament game since 2013.
  • Stojakovic’s 63 points in the ACC Tournament are tied for the fifth-most for a player who appeared in two games in a single tournament. The mark is also the highest since 1997, when Tim Duncan scored 64 points for Wake Forest.
  • After also scoring 29 points on Tuesday, March 11, Stokjakovic’s 63 total points in the ACC Tournament are the fifth-most ever by a player who played two games.  
  • California won the rebounding battle by 13 on Wednesday night. It marks the sixth win of the season for Stanford when being outrebounded by their opponent.
  • Stanford won its first neutral site contest of the season, improving their record to 1-2.
