CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Boston College senior attack Rachel Clark earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and BC junior goalkeeper Shea Dolce and Syracuse junior goalkeeper Daniella Guyette shared ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from March 17-23. This marks the second straight week and third time this season that Clark earned ACC weekly honors.
Clark also was honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Tuesday, earning IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Clark helped the Eagles to a 2-0 week highlighted by a 17-9 win over No. 5 Stanford, snapping the Cardinal's 20-game home win streak and setting a BC program mark with 20 straight wins dating to last season. The native of Devon, Pennsylvania, led the way with 12 points thanks to nine goals and three assists, while also chipping in with a team-high five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Against Brown on Tuesday, March 18, Clark scored five of her game-high six points in the second half to lead the Eagles to the 18-7 win. On Saturday, March 22, she scored five goals and added an assist, along with a career-high four ground balls and two CTs. Clark scored three of her goals during a 7-0 run that help put the game out of reach.
Dolce dominated the week, posting an impressive .588 save percentage through the two wins and an 8.00 goals against average with 20 saves. A native of Darien, Connecticut, Dolce posted her fifth game of the season with 11 stops and a .611 save percentage in the win over Brown - her fifth time in six contests with 10-plus stops. Against Stanford, she stopped nine shots with a .500 save percentage, helping the Eagles limit Stanford to a season low in goals with nine.
Guyette made 11 saves in each of Syracuse’s wins against No. 17 Loyola Maryland and No. 20 Notre Dame last week. In the Orange’s win against No. 20 Notre Dame on Sunday, March 23, the native of Newbury Park, California, made back-to-back saves with four minutes to play that preserved a one-goal lead for the Orange as they went on to a 12-11 victory. Guyette has now reached double figures in saves in seven games this season.
Eight ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IWLCA poll, including four in the top 10, led by Boston College at No. 1 and North Carolina at No. 2. Stanford moved up to No. 4 this week and is followed by Syracuse at No. 8, Virginia at No. 11, Duke at No. 12, Clemson at No. 16 and Notre Dame at No. 20. The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
There are five non-conference games scheduled this week, including a top-five matchup on Thursday, March 27, as No. 2 North Carolina travels to No. 3 Northwestern at 8 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network. The upcoming weekend marks the sixth of nine weekends in league play, including five games on Saturday, March 29, all starting at noon ET, with Virginia Tech at Duke airing on ACC Network. Also on Saturday: California at Clemson, Stanford at Louisville, Pitt at Boston College and Virginia at Syracuse. On Sunday, March 30, UNC plays at Notre Dame at 3 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
