CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Stanford sophomore attack Ava Arceri earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Clemson senior midfielder Summer Agostino was selected ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from February 24-March 2.
Agostino also was honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Tuesday, notching IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Arceri was crucial in helping aid No. 8 Stanford to two wins this week, recording seven goals on 14 shots and adding a pair of assists. The native of St. James, New York, recorded her second hat trick of the season in the 16-12 win over Pitt on Thursday, February 28, totaling three goals and an assist with five draw controls before registering four goals and an assist on Saturday, March 2, against Villanova. She also recorded the eventual game-winning goal with six minutes left in regulation against the Wildcats.
Agostino was a key piece in Clemson defensive effort in a 9-8 road triumph over then-No. 6 Syracuse on Saturday, March 1, in the program’s highest-ever ranked win. A native of South Setauket, New York, Agostino picked up a team-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers in the win. Her ground ball total was a career high and second-most in program history.
Eight ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest IWLCA poll, including four in the top 10, headlined by Boston College at No. 1 and North Carolina at No. 2. Clemson has earned its highest ranking in program history at No. 6 this week, followed by Stanford (No. 8), Syracuse (No. 11), Virginia (No. 14), Duke (No. 18) and Notre Dame (No. 20). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
Four matchups of ranked teams highlight a big weekend in conference play, starting Friday, March 7, with No. 7 Stanford visiting No. 11 Syracuse at 5 p.m. ET on ACC Network. On Saturday, March 8, No. 1 Boston College travels to No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 18 Duke heads to No. 6 Clemson and No. 14 Virginia plays at No. 2 North Carolina. Also on Saturday, California travels to Pitt and Virginia Tech visits Louisville.
