GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Headlined by a come-from-behind win from Alexandra Gazzoli, second-seeded Florida State edged fourth-seeded Wake Forest, 3-2, to claim the program’s first ever Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championship, Saturday afternoon at Sedgefield Country Club.
With the win, the Seminoles secured the league’s automatic bid into regional play of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship. FSU and several other ACC teams will now await the Selection Show scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at 1 p.m. ET on Golf Channel. Following regional play, this year’s National Championship returns to Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, from May 16-21.
After finishing as the runner-up eight times — including five of the last seven Championships — Florida State broke through to claim its first ACC title. The Seminoles become the sixth different program to win the conference’s women’s golf championship.
Mirabel Ting gave FSU an early 1-0 advantage when she cruised to a 5&4 victory over Wake’s Chloe Kovelesky. Despite the early FSU lead, the Demon Deacons bounced back and won back-to-back matches when Macy Pate knocked off Sophia Fullbrook, 5&4, and Anne Sterre Den Dunnen upset Lottie Woad, 2&1.
With Florida State down 2-1, the match between FSU’s Kaylah Williams and Wake Forest’s Sarah Lydic was all square after 17 holes. Williams made birdie on the 18th to clinch a 1UP victory. Williams and Ting were the only Seminoles to finish a perfect 2-0 in match play for the week.
With the match even at 2-2, the deciding point came down to the pairing of Gazzoli and Carolina Chacarra. With their matchup even after 17 holes, Gazzoli took advantage of a Chacarra drive that went out-of-bounds and sealed the championship with a par.
