CARLSBAD, Calif. (theACC.com) – Top-seeded Stanford advanced to the match-play final of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday evening at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, defeating a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference teams along the way.
Looking to secure their second consecutive national championship and fourth in program history, the Cardinal defeated eighth-seeded Virginia in the quarterfinals, 3-1, and then edged fourth-seeded Florida State, 3-1, in the semifinals. Stanford will face Northwestern in Wednesday’s final, as the Wildcats advanced with a 3-2 win over Oregon in the other semifinal.
In the semifinal matchup, three pairings went to extra holes after Stanford took a 2-0 lead with wins from Paula Martín Sampedro and Kelly Xu. Florida State’s Alexandra Gazzoli earned the Seminoles' first point with a 19-hole win over Meja Örtengren, but Megha Ganne clinched Stanford’s spot in the final by sinking a long birdie putt to defeat Lottie Woad in 20 holes.
Earlier in the day, Stanford took down Virginia with wins from Martín Sampedro, Örtengren and Andrea Revuelta. Amanda Sambach secured the lone point for the Cavaliers.
Stanford becomes the fourth straight current ACC member to play in the national championship match, with the Cardinal winning titles in 2022 and 2024 and Wake Forest earning the national title in 2023. Stanford looks to become the first program since Duke in 2007 to win back-to-back titles, as the Blue Devils won three straight championships from 2005-07.
