ACC Weekly Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) - Labor Day weekend features a busy slate of Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer non-conference action. Twenty-two matches will be played from Thursday through Monday, August 28 through September 1.
The long weekend is highlighted by a pair of ACC matches against ranked teams. Notre Dame plays host to No. 14 Oregon State on Thursday evening, and No. 12 Virginia Tech travels to No. 2 Marshall on Friday in a matchup against the reigning national runner-up.
League play begins on Friday, September 5.
Noting ACC Men's Soccer
• ACC teams combined for a 22-3-4 record in the first six days of the season (.828 win percentage).
• League teams have outscored their opponents 58-21 through 29 matches.
• 10 ACC teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, including six in the top 10: Pitt (3), Stanford (4), Wake Forest (5), Clemson (6), NC State (8), Duke (9), Virginia (11), Virginia Tech (12), North Carolina (15) and Cal (17). Both totals are the most of any league.
• Five ACC standouts were named to the Men’s Hermann Trophy Watch List: Ransford Gyan (Clemson), Ulfur Bjornsson (Duke), Luca Nikolai (UNC), Casper Svendby (Pitt) and Cooper Flax (Wake Forest).
• ACC teams have won 20 NCAA men’s soccer championships, with 11 since 2001, including three of the last four (Clemson 2021 & 2023, Syracuse 2022). Eight active ACC programs have won at least one national championship, the most of any conference. The 15 active ACC schools have combined for 20 titles.
• At least one ACC team has reached the Men's College Cup in 22 of the last 24 seasons. Thirteen of the 15 active ACC programs have reached the College Cup. Sixty-five ACC teams have reached the College Cup all-time.
• Six active ACC head coaches have won D-I national championships as a head coach: Mike Noonan (Clemson), Carlos Somoano (UNC), Jay Vidovich (Pitt), Jeremy Gunn (Stanford), Ian McIntyre (Syracuse) and George Gelnovatch (Virginia). NC State's Marc Hubbard won a Division II national title in 2013.
