Week 3 Thursday Preview: Historic Rivalry Opens ACC Slate in Week 3

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Week 3 of ACC Football kicks off under the lights Thursday night with the league’s longest-running rivalry, as NC State travels to Wake Forest for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The in-state rivals have met every year since 1910, making this the longest continuous series in ACC history and the second-longest in the FBS.

Fans tuning in will also be treated to the ACC and ESPN/ACCN's Enhanced Instant Replay Transparency, a groundbreaking initiative that delivers real-time officiating collaborative communication directly to viewers. This first-of-its-kind feature, available on ESPN/ESPN2 for Friday night games and ACCN during Saturday primetime matchups, provides unprecedented access to the on-field decision-making process. The ACC remains the only conference offering this level of transparency, setting a new standard for fan engagement.

Thursday’s showdown also marks the start of three straight days of ACC Football, culminating with 10 games across the conference on Saturday, September 13.

The Wolfpack lead the all-time series 69-43-6, though Wake Forest won last year’s meeting 34-30 in Raleigh. Six of the last eight meetings have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

Though NC State and Wake were projected to finish 10th and 16th in the ACC, respectively, in the media preseason poll, both have shown early promise. The Wolfpack boast one of the nation’s top red zone defenses, allowing points on just 62.5% of opponent trips, including just three touchdowns. The Demon Deacons counter with a powerful rushing attack, averaging over 200 yards per game, which ranks fourth in the ACC, and a defense that allows just 9.5 points per game, second in the conference.
