Virginia’s Carter, FSU’s Okeke Named ACC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia junior midfielder Ella Carter has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Florida State sophomore defender Janet Okeke was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played September 8-14.

OFFENSIVE – Ella Carter, Jr., M, Virginia (Leesburg, Virginia)
  • Scored a goal and added an assist in Virginia’s 3-1 win over No. 2 Duke.
  • The 11th-minute goal proved to be the eventual game-winning tally.
  • Recorded her assist in the 49th minute to help seal the victory.
DEFENSIVE – Janet Okeke, So., D, Florida State (Laval, Quebec)
  • Anchored a backline that posted shutouts against Louisville (2-0) and at Syracuse (4-0).
  • Helped hold Louisville, the nation’s top-scoring team, to just one shot on goal.
  • Helped limit Syracuse to only one shot on goal and four total attempts, with two of those coming after she left the match.
Women’s Soccer Notes
  • ACC teams have combined for 79 non-conference victories this season, the second-most of any conference.
  • ACC teams own a 15-9-7 (.597) record against Power Four opponents.
  • In 12 matches against ranked opponents, ACC teams have earned a result in 10 (five wins, five draws).
