CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson sophomore midfielder Ransford Gyan earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Notre Dame senior defender Mitch Ferguson claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played from August 25-31, as announced Tuesday.
Ransford Gyan, So., M, Clemson (Sunyani, Ghana)
• Scored three goals and added an assist in home wins over South Carolina and UAB.
• Recorded first brace of the season for Clemson, with two goals on Friday against UAB; also recorded an assist.
• Scored Clemson’s first goal in win over the rival Gamecocks on Tuesday.
Mitch Ferguson, Sr., D, Notre Dame (Glen Carbon, Ill.)
• The center back made an impact on both ends of the pitch in Notre Dame's 1-0 win over No. 14 Oregon State on Thursday, scoring a goal and helping the Irish secure the clean sheet victory.
• Ferguson's header in the 39th minute off a free kick found the back of the net at the far post in what ended up being the game-winning goal.
• Then the senior captain and the rest of the Irish defense defended admirably to stop the high powered Oregon State attack from scoring for the first time this season.
Men’s Soccer Notes
• ACC teams have combined for a 32-8-9 record (.745 winning percentage).
• Stanford (4-0), Louisville (3-0) and NC State (3-0) own perfect records, while Clemson, Duke, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest (2-0-1) and Notre Dame (1-0-2) remain unbeaten.
• League play begins this weekend, with four matches scheduled for Friday and one on Sunday.
