Week 5 Friday Preview: Top Two ACC Offenses Meet at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Week 5 of Atlantic Coast Conference football gets underway under the lights on Friday night, as No. 8 Florida State heads to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on Virginia. The primetime matchup will air nationally at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, setting the stage for a pivotal weekend in the ACC.

Friday’s game marks the first ACC matchup of the weekend and sets the tone for a busy Saturday slate featuring six games, including five conference showdowns. Several key matchups could have early implications in the divisional and overall ACC standings.

Florida State leads the all-time series against Virginia, 14–4, though the Cavaliers won the most recent meeting in 2019.

The Seminoles have been dominant through three games this season, outscoring opponents 174–30 for a +144 point differential—the second-best start by an ACC team this century, behind only FSU’s 2012 squad (+173).

Florida State currently leads the nation in both scoring (58.0 points per game) and total offense (628.7 yards per game), while ranking second nationally in third-down conversion rate (66.7%). The Seminoles are also averaging 19.44 yards per completion, which is tops in the ACC and second nationally.

Friday's matchup features the ACC’s top two rushing offenses: FSU ranks No. 2 nationally with 363.0 rushing yards per game, while Virginia ranks second in the ACC and 12th nationally at 251.5 yards per game.

UVA’s offense leads the league and ranks eighth nationally with 108 first downs. The Cavaliers have rushed for 200 or more yards in three consecutive games for the first time since 2004.
