Louisville’s Berry, Syracuse’s Izoje Named ACC Women’s Basketball Players of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville sophomore guard Imari Berry has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Syracuse center Uche Izoje earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors for games played January 12-18.

ACC women’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by member schools and determined by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.

PLAYER – Imari Berry, So., G, Louisville (Clarksville, Tenn.)
  • Averaged 20.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and shot 53.1 percent (17-for-32) from the field in two road conference wins over No. 23 Notre Dame (79-66) and NC State (88-80, OT).
  • Scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds and added three assists in Thursday’s win over the Fighting Irish, ending Notre Dame’s 13-game home winning streak.
  • Led all scorers with 33 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday’s come-from-behind win over NC State, snapping the Wolfpack’s 16-game home winning streak.
  • Totaled 25 points in the second half and overtime to help seal Louisville’s first win in Raleigh since 2020.

ROOKIE – Uche Izoje, Fr., C, Syracuse (Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria)
  • Averaged a double-double with 17.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in a pair of ACC wins over California (90-87, 3OT) and Stanford (69-58).
  • Recorded 22 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and two steals in Thursday’s triple-overtime victory over California.
  • Registered 12 points and 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season, while adding two blocks and two steals in Sunday’s win over Stanford.
  • Currently leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally in blocks per game (2.95).

Women’s Basketball Notes
  • ACC teams have accumulated 144 nonconference victories this season.
  • ACC teams have played 30 games against teams ranked in the Associated Press (AP) Poll (31 against teams ranked the USA Today Coaches Poll), the most among peer power conferences.
  • A total of 11 ACC teams are in the latest NET, headlined by No. 8 Louisville, No. 17 Duke, No. 21 North Carolina and No. 23 Notre Dame.
