ACC Names Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing six standout efforts from five different programs. Florida State led the way with a pair of selections following a strong weekend of competition across the league.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Jamir Brown, Syracuse, So. (Riverside, N.J.)
  • Recorded a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles at the Nittany Lion Challenge, clocking a time of 7.63 seconds.
  • His time currently leads the ACC and ranks fifth nationally.
  • Won the event by nearly 0.3 seconds over the field.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Jeremiah Nubbe, Virginia, Sr. (Yelm, Washington)
  • Posted a weight throw mark of 23.24 meters (76-3) to win the Virginia Tech Invitational.
  • The mark leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally.
 
ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Sam Novak, California, Fr. (Paradise Valley, Ariz.)
  • Won the pole vault at the Spokane Sports Showcase with a mark of 5.25 meters (17-2.75).
  • Became the first freshman in Cal history to surpass 17 feet indoors.
  • His mark ranks fourth overall in the ACC and third nationally among freshmen.
  • His mark is now tied for sixth-best in program history.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Shenese Walker, Florida State, Sr. (Saint Thomas, Jamaica)
  • Opened her season by winning the 200-meter dash at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.
  • Her time of 23.15 set a new personal best, facility record and fifth-best time in Florida State history.
  • She now ranks third in the nation and first in the ACC.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ashley Callahan, Louisville, R-Sr. (San Diego, Calif.)
  • Won the Bellarmine Open with a pole vault mark of 4.48 meters (14-8.25).
  • Her mark leads both the ACC and the NCAA this season.
  • She also shattered the Louisville and meet pole vault records.
 
ACC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Nafy Thiam, Florida State, Fr. (Wavre, Belgium)
  • Finished second in the weight throw at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational with a mark of 16.62 meters.
  • Set the Belgium U20 record in the event, while also ranking second in program history.
  • Her mark currently leads the ACC and ranks 12th nationally.
