CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke freshman Abdelraham Tolba earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Fencer of the Week honors, while Notre Dame sophomore Lola Possick claimed Women’s Fencer of the Week laurels for the week of January 12-18.
MEN’S FENCER OF WEEK - Abdelraham Tolba, Fr., Foil, Duke, Cairo, Egypt
• Posted a 17-0 record in his first event of the season at the Philadelphia Invitational.
• Was 3-0 against No. 10 Yale, No. 13 NYU and No. 15 UCSD
• Led No. 8 Duke men to ranked team wins over No. 9 Penn State, No. 13 NYU and No. 15 UCSD.
WOMEN’S FENCER OF WEEK – Lola Possick, So., Sabre, Notre Dame, Weehawken, N.J.
• Led No. 2-ranked Notre Dame women to a 4-1 record against five ranked opponents at the St. John’s Cup, as the Fighting Irish tied for first place overall.
• Posted an 11-4 record in the event, including a 2-1 mark in the Irish’s 14-13 win over top-ranked Columbia.
• Was 3-0 in a win against No. 7 Ohio State and 2-1 in team wins over No. 4 Harvard and No. 13 St. John’s; also was 2-1 against No. 3 Princeton.
