Syracuse Wins First ACC Field Hockey Championship in Shootout

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse claimed its first Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Championship in program history Friday, defeating sixth-seeded Boston College, 1-0, after prevailing 2-0 in the shootout following a scoreless match.

It marked the first  ACC Field Hockey Championship match in tournament history decided by a shootout.

Both defenses controlled play throughout the opening 30 minutes, with neither side able to break through. Syracuse’s back line held the Eagles without a shot on goal in the first half, while Boston College goalkeeper Charly Kramer made three saves, including two in the second quarter.

The match remained scoreless through the second half. Boston College put its first two shots on goal in the fourth quarter, but Syracuse goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin turned aside both attempts.

Eiselin delivered again in the shootout, denying all four Boston College attempts. The senior from Amsterdam, Netherlands, held firm in the cage, while Sammie Goin and Taylor Bigbie converted for the Orange to clinch the ACC title.

Syracuse will learn its NCAA Championship destination at 10 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 8.
