CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its Indoor Track & Field Performers of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing five top performers from four different programs. California led the way with a pair of selections, while Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech each also earned one honoree.
ACC Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Nick Plant, Virginia Tech, Sr. (Canfield, Ohio)
- Clocked a personal-best 2:17.80 in the 1,000-meter run, furthering his hold as Virginia Tech’s record-holder in the event.
- His mark is the fifth-fastest in NCAA history in the event.
- Also helped the Hokies to a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, running a 48.79-second split.
ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Jeremiah Nubbe, Virginia, Sr. (Yelm, Washington)
- Won the men’s weight throw at the Doc Hale Invitational with a season-best mark of 23.80 meters (78-1).
- His mark leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally in the event.
- Earned his second ACC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week honor of the season.
ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week
Sam Novak, California, Fr. (Paradise Valley, Arizona)
- Won the pole vault at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a mark of 5.45 meters (17-10.5).
- The mark is tied for 23rd nationally and ranks third in the ACC this season.
- Novak leads all NCAA freshmen in the event by 3.5 inches and is the top ACC freshman in the pole vault by 11.75 inches.
- Improved his own California freshman record by 7.75 inches and is tied for third in program history.
- Garnered his second ACC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Week honor.
ACC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Stephanie Moss, Duke, Grad. (Wilmslow, England)
- Won both of her races at the JDL Camel City Invitational, turning in a pair of top-10 marks in the country.
- Clocked a 4:11.96 in the 1500-meter and a 4:29.99 in the mile – both times over six seconds faster than the event runner-up.
- Each of her two finishes rank second in Duke history, and currently rank third and eighth, respectively, in the NCAA this season.
ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ali Sahaida, California, Sr. (El Dorado Hills, California)
- Won the pole vault at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, posting a personal-best of 4.49 meters (14-8.25) – more than eight inches better than her previous best.
- Now leads the ACC in the event and posted the best indoor or outdoor pole vault mark in Golden Bears’ history.
- Her mark ranks sixth nationally this season.
- She remains undefeated in the event this season, posting a trio of victories and setting a personal best in each meet.
