CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse senior attackman Joey Spallina notched Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Orange senior goalie Jimmy McCool earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week for games played from February 2-8.
All five ACC teams are ranked in the latest USILA Coaches poll, with Syracuse at No. 2, Notre Dame at No. 6, Duke at No. 7, North Carolina at No. 8 and Virginia at No. 13.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Joey Spallina, Sr., A, Syracuse (Mount Sinai, New York)
• Posted four goals and distributed five assists in the Orange’s Saturday win over Saint Joseph’s.
• It was his second hat trick of the year and 21st of his career. He posted his 27th career game with at least three assists and his 30th with at least five points.
• Three of his goals were unassisted.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Jimmy McCool, Sr., G, Syracuse (Boston, Massachusetts)
• Made a dozen saves in 45 minutes of work and allowed just two goals in the Orange’s win over Saint Joseph's.
• It marks the third time in his career McCool has allowed just two goals in at least 45 minutes of action.
• He finished with an 83.3 save percentage and also tallied one ground ball.
