CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior attacker Darcy Felter earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Notre Dame freshman midfielder Uma Kowalski claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week laurels for games played during the opening weekend of the season.
Eight ACC women’s lacrosse teams are ranked among the top 16 teams in the latest IWLCA poll, led by North Carolina at No. 1. The Tar Heels are followed by No. 3 Boston College, No. 4 Stanford, No. 9 Clemson, No. 12 Virginia, No. 13 Syracuse, No. 14 Duke and No. 16 Notre Dame. The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Darcy Felter, Sr., A, North Carolina (Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania)
• Matched her career high with five goals on only six shots in the Tar Heels’ 19-11 road win over No. 19 James Madison.
• All of Felter's six shots were on goal.
• She converted one free position to go along with two groundballs.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK – Uma Kowalski, Fr., M, Notre Dame (Sparta, New Jersey)
• Helped guide the Irish to a 2-0 weekend with a 12-10 win over No. 12 Michigan and a dominant 25-0 win over Central Michigan. The win was the third regular-season shutout in program history.
• She totaled 20 draw controls for the weekend with nine against Michigan and 11 versus Central Michigan. She also caused two turnovers on the weekend.
• She controlled the draw in the key win over the Wolverines, neutralizing Michigan’s offensive attempts, as she recorded more draw controls (9) than the entire Michigan team (8).
