UNC’s Shamel, ND’s Delsoin Earn ACC Fencing Weekly Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina freshman Youseff Shamel earned Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Fencer of the Week honors, while Notre Dame junior Chelea Delsoin picked up the women’s Fencer of the Week distinction for the week of February 2-8.
 
The 2026 ACC Fencing Championships will be contested February 21-22 at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. ACCNX will have broadcast coverage of the event.
 
MEN’S FENCER OF WEEK – Youseff Shamel, Fr., Epee, North Carolina (Egypt)
• Posted a 12-1 record while competing at the Miller Invitational.
• Was 3-0 in duals against No. 9 Penn State, No. 11 Boston College and Brandeis; also was 2-0 against Air Force.
• Among his wins was a victory against All-American Tingwei Xu of Penn State.
 
WOMEN’S FENCER OF WEEK – Chelsea Delsoin, Jr., Sabre, Notre Dame (Jersey City, New Jersey)
• Went 13-2 in duals against No. 5 Duke, No. 10 Penn State, Boston College, Brandeis and Johns Hopkins.
• Was 3-0 against Duke, Penn State and Boston College.
• Led the Notre Dame women to five team dual wins.
