DURHAM, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame dominated in winning the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Fencing Team Championship, while the Fighting Irish won five medals in the men’s individual competition on Day 1 of the ACC Fencing Championships, which were held Saturday at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
The women’s individual competition will be contested on Sunday, February 22, at 8 a.m. ET. ACC Network Extra will provide coverage of the semifinals and finals, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET. The men’s team competition will follow at 1:30 p.m. ET, with ACCNX’s coverage commencing at 2:45 p.m. ET.
Notre Dame won its 10th ACC women’s team championship in the last 12 years, including its fifth straight. The Fighting Irish rolled in each of their four dual meets and downed Duke, 18-9, in the final dual to clinch the title. The Blue Devils finished second in the team competition after winning three of their four duals. Stanford split it four duals to finish in third place, while North Carolina went 1-3 for fourth place and Boston College was 0-4 for fifth place.
In the men’s individual competition, North Carolina won two gold medals and picked up three medals overall. Notre Dame picked up five medals, including one gold, while Boston College also claimed one medal.
In the epee final, North Carolina freshman Youssef Shamel downed top-seeded Kruz Schembri of Notre Dame, 15-10. The Tar Heels’ Peter Bruk followed that up by earning the foil crown, topping ND’s Ziyuan Chen, 15-13. Notre Dame’s Ahmed Hesham rolled to the sabre crown with a 15-5 victory in the final over UNC’s Elden Wood.
